This
website is being produced to celebrate Frenchmen Street, with
all its diversity and excitement. We hope you enjoy it and
please contact us if you have any comments or suggestions.
Future plans include the addition of audio and video for downloading
soon.
FrenchmenSt.Com
is for and by local New Orleans musicians.
This
mantra is true. While we celebrate and love all of New Orleans,
Frenchmen Street is a wonderful year-round harbor for working
musicians. Each week, hundreds of musicians perform on Frenchmen
Street in colorful clubs and cafes creating a truly magical
scene that is unequaled in the world.
Does
Austin have it? No way! Been there done that! How about New
York City? Great Town and a lot to do but lacking in the comradely
amongst musicians that is shared by the Frenchmen Street bands.
The City of New Orleans talks about building a multimillion-dollar
Jazz Museum. Museums are for dead things. Frenchmen Street
is alive and breathing; and free of bureaucratic ideas.
This
website is not a government-sponsored site. While, the idea
of government-supported art may work in a perfect world, we
do not live in a perfect world. However, Frenchmen Street
is a Shangri-La for musicians, music lovers, and dancers.
We
welcome the locals and tourists to enjoy the local acts. Please
support the musicians by buying CDs and other merchandise
they may be selling from the bandstand
That
is the main reason for Frenchmenst.Com – to promote
the bands, the clubs and the cafes on Frenchmen Street. In
the future, we hope to include sound and video clips of the
music and dancers. We hope to include the well-known and "not
so well known" acts. In addition, coming soon will be
interviews of the people of the street – the bands,
bartenders, cooks, owners and patrons. We hope to have fun
with this site and we welcome your feedback.
